Focus and Scope

Jurnal Pelita Raya (JPR) is a peer-reviewed international journal published three times annually (April, August, and December) by Mahkota Science Publishers, devoted to the advancement of critical scholarship and intellectual inquiry within the broad and diverse landscape of Indonesian studies. The journal focuses on illuminating, interrogating, and forecasting the past, present, and future issues shaping Indonesian society, with a distinctive emphasis on the social sciences and humanities. JPR provides an interdisciplinary platform for rigorous research and reflective analysis encompassing the intricate interplay of religion, education, politics, law, society, economics, and culture within the Indonesian context.

Specifically, the journal welcomes original contributions that explore:

  1. The rich tapestry of religious and spiritual traditions in Indonesia, including the development, diversity, and contemporary expressions of faith, with special consideration of Islamic cultural heritage;
  2. The development and transformation of educational philosophies, institutions, policies, and practices across historical periods and contemporary settings;
  3. Political dynamics, governance, and the history of state formation, including analyses of political thought, policy, and institutional reform;
  4. The historical trajectory and present state of Indonesian law, legal culture, and justice systems;
  5. Transformations in Indonesian society, including social structure, mobility, demographic change, and patterns of migration;
  6. Economic history and development, spanning pre-colonial to modern periods, and analyses of Indonesia’s integration into regional and global economies;
  7. Artistic, literary, and mythological traditions, reflecting Indonesia’s diverse cultural identities and their ongoing influence on the nation’s creative and intellectual life;
  8. Expansive civilizational narratives and the historical trajectories of the Nusantara, critically examining the enduring continuities, pivotal transformations, and significant ruptures that have fundamentally shaped the distinctive character and collective identity of the Indonesian nation.

Jurnal Pelita Raya (JPR) invites rigorous theoretical debate, methodological innovation, and interdisciplinary perspectives to foster scholarship that challenges conventional paradigms and advances a nuanced understanding of Indonesia’s complex realities. Submissions should demonstrate methodological rigour, whether qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods and present incisive, well-argued, and analytically robust research, articulated in clear and engaging English. While the journal serves as a platform for disseminating diverse academic viewpoints, full responsibility for the content of each published article remains with the respective authors, reflecting JPR’s steadfast commitment to academic freedom, integrity, and excellence.
