Retraction and Correction
Policy Statement
Jurnal Lentera Insani (JLI) recognises the considerable effort invested by authors in preparing manuscripts and the importance of the peer review process in ensuring academic quality. Nevertheless, circumstances may arise in which a published article must be corrected, retracted, or removed for scientific, ethical, or legal reasons. Such actions are taken only in exceptional cases and with great care. All corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies are carried out in accordance with strict editorial standards to preserve the reliability and credibility of the journal’s academic record. JLI is committed to maintaining the integrity and completeness of essential scholarly content for researchers, librarians, and the wider educational community.
Article Retraction
Jurnal Lentera Insani (JLI) is dedicated to upholding the integrity of the scholarly record. Articles may be retracted under the following circumstances:
- When a significant scientific error invalidates the article’s conclusions, including cases involving unreliable findings resulting from misconduct, such as data fabrication, or from honest mistakes such as miscalculations or experimental flaws.
- When substantial parts of the findings have been previously published elsewhere without proper citation, acknowledgement, or justification, it constitutes redundant publication.
- When ethical breaches are identified, including plagiarism, improper authorship, or misuse of confidential information obtained during peer review.
To ensure that retractions follow best practices and comply with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines, JLI adheres to the following procedure:
- The need for potential retraction is reported to the journal editor.
- The Editor evaluates the case according to COPE flowcharts, taking into account the author’s response.
- The Editor submits the findings to the Ethics Advisory Board for review to ensure consistency with industry standards and best practices.
- A final decision is communicated to the author, and, where applicable, to relevant institutions or bodies.
- A formal retraction notice is posted online and published in the next available issue of the journal.
Please note that even when authors retain copyright of their work, this does not grant the right to retract the article after publication. The integrity of the academic record remains the journal’s foremost priority, and COPE’s Retraction Guidelines apply in all cases.
Article Correction
Jurnal Lentera Insani (JLI) may issue a correction when:
- A minor part of an otherwise reliable article contains incorrect or misleading information, particularly when caused by an honest error.
- The author or contributor list requires amendment, such as when an eligible author has been omitted or an ineligible individual has been included.
Corrections to peer-reviewed content fall into the following categories:
- Publisher correction (erratum): issued to address significant errors introduced during the production process that negatively affect the publication record, the scientific credibility of the article, or the reputation of the authors or the journal.
- Author correction (corrigendum): issued when authors identify substantial errors that affect the reliability of the publication, the scientific record, or their professional reputation.
- Addendum: issued when authors wish to add information to clarify inconsistencies, update findings, or expand upon the content of the original article.
Editorial decisions regarding corrections are made by the Editor (s), who may consult reviewers or members of the Editorial Board. Handling editors will request clarification from the authors, but the Editors retain the final authority on whether a correction is required and which type is appropriate.
Article Removal
In scarce circumstances, it may be necessary to remove an article from the journal’s online platform. Removal will occur only when:
- The content is clearly defamatory.
- The article infringes legal rights.
- There is a valid court order requiring removal.
- The article, if acted upon, poses a serious and immediate health risk.
In such cases, the article’s metadata, including the title and author information, will remain accessible. Still, the text will be replaced with a notice stating that the article has been removed due to legal reasons.
Article Replacement
When an article poses a serious health risk if acted upon, the authors may request that the flawed article be retracted and replaced with a corrected version. In such cases, the standard retraction procedures will be followed. The retraction notice will include a link to the corrected and republished article, along with a complete document history.
