Publication Process

Manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Lentera Insani (JLI) undergo a rigorous selection and evaluation process conducted by the Board of Editors to ensure compliance with the journal’s writing guidelines, focus, and scope, as well as to guarantee high academic quality. All manuscripts are reviewed using a double-blind peer review system, meaning that the identities of both authors and reviewers remain undisclosed to one another throughout the evaluation process.

Desk Review

During the desk review stage, the manuscript is assessed to determine whether it conforms to the journal’s writing guidelines, thematic focus, and scope, and whether it demonstrates an appropriate level of academic quality. If the manuscript does not meet these initial requirements, the author may be allowed to revise it in accordance with the specified criteria. However, manuscripts that fall substantially short of the journal’s standards may be rejected at this stage without proceeding to peer review.

Peer Review

Manuscripts that successfully pass the desk review stage are forwarded to two reviewers who possess expertise relevant to the subject matter of the submission. The review process is typically completed within three weeks. Manuscripts that are not approved during the desk review stage do not progress to this phase of evaluation.

Reviewer’s Decision

Following their assessment, reviewers will provide one of the following recommendations:

  • Accepted, indicating that the manuscript is suitable for publication.
  • Accepted with minor revisions, indicating that the manuscript may be published once the author has addressed the minor concerns raised by the reviewers.
  • Accepted with major revisions, indicating that substantial modifications are required, which may include revisions to data analysis, refinement of theoretical frameworks, or significant rewriting of sections.
  • Rejected, indicating that the manuscript is not suitable for publication or that the issues identified relate to fundamental aspects of the work.

The Board of Editors considers the reviewers’ recommendations in determining the subsequent course of action for the manuscript.

Revision Stage

When a manuscript is returned to the author with a request for revisions, it is accompanied by a review summary form outlining the reviewers’ comments. Authors are allocated three weeks to complete revisions for manuscripts requiring major revisions, while those requiring minor revisions are granted one week. When resubmitting the revised manuscript, the author must complete and attach the review summary form as evidence of the revisions undertaken.

Final Decision

The Board of Editors re-evaluates the revised manuscript to ensure that the author has adequately addressed the reviewers’ concerns. At this stage, the manuscript may still be rejected if the revisions are deemed inadequate or not carried out with sufficient rigour.

Proofreading

Once the manuscript has been deemed acceptable, it undergoes a proofreading process designed to ensure clarity, coherence, and linguistic precision.

Publication Confirmation

The final layout of the manuscript is then returned to the author for confirmation to ensure that the content accurately reflects the author’s work. Authors may correct typographical errors at this stage. Upon receiving author confirmation, the Managing Editor finalises the manuscript for online publication on the journal’s website and for print publication.
